What Can I Expect
Fly in G-MASH, the vintage Bell 47 helicopter! Yep, with a callsign like that, these very special flights out of Welshpool Airport really are an homage to the classic American comedy drama TV show ‘M*A*S*H’.
We are offering vouchers for 20 or 30-minute experiences in this legendary helicopter, during which time you will even be offered the chance to fly this classic chopper yourself, including giving hovering a go.
Do you remember the opening sequence of that smash-hit TV series? The Bell 47 army helicopter swooped in to transport patients to the ‘Mobile Army Surgical Hospital’, which was overseen by surgeon Benjamin ‘Hawkeye’ Pierce, brilliantly played by Alan Alda and Nurse Houlihan, played by Loretta Swit.
The Bell 47 you’ll be flying in has that authentic khaki Army livery, harking back to their military flying days in the 60s and 70s. The machine looks quite different to modern day models (just look at the bulbous cockpit!) and lacks some of the new technology, all of which makes it really engaging to fly!
These flights in the Bell 47 helicopter out of Mid-Wales Airport at Welshpool are unique. It’s a very rare chance to fly in a classic helicopter that evokes memories of such a popular TV show. We think these experiences will appeal to fans of both vintage helicopters and M*A*S*H!
