River Choices:
River Arun (Upper)
- Begin your adventure at the tranquil Pallingham Quay, where calm waters wind through open farmland and wilder, tree-lined stretches of the upper Arun
River Ouse (Upper)
- Start at the peaceful Barcombe Mills, paddling along narrow waterways and over the gentle remains of the old mill — a perfect setting for a relaxed exploration.
River Ouse (Middle)
- Launch from Barcombe Mills and journey downstream to Lewes, finishing at the iconic Harvey’s Brewery. Unwind after your paddle with a meal, a local brew, and time to reflect on your trip.
River Cuckmere
- Opt for Cuckmere Haven and enjoy a scenic tidal paddle through the South Downs National Park. Keep an eye out for the famous White Horse of Litlington, and if you’re lucky, you might even spot an otter or mink along the way.

The launch locations for these kayak outings are on carefully selected rivers in East and West Sussex. All tours are suitable for beginners with little or no paddling experience and all the gear and teaching is included too.
The instructors hosting and guiding these kayak trips are British Canoe Union (BCU) qualified and are passionate about kayaking and many other outdoor pursuits, as well as appreciating the local wildlife and environment enormously.
The settings for these kayak adventures in Sussex are stunning. From ever-changing tidal flows, to gently meandering rivers, each itinerary has its own characteristics, as well as lots to see and admire as you paddle on by.
Outings last upward of five hours in total and at the end of your adventure, there’s always time to savour a warming hot drink on the river’s edge. It’s the perfect moment to reflect on what you’ve seen and how well you paddled!

- The trip will be adapted to suit all skill levels, whether you're a beginner or have prior experience
- There are no requirements for this experience but being able to swim 50m and having a reasonable level of fitness is preferable

Equipment needed:
- Full change of clothes to go kayaking in, including footwear, and underwear
- Clothing should be suitable for the time of year
- Waterproof jacket and trousers (to wear on the water)
- Extra jumper
- Warm hat / sun hat
- Gloves
- Towel
- Snacks / water
- Medication / Tablets / Inhaler etc
The above list is just a guide and appropriate clothing for the time of year should be worn. We highly recommend you have a dry bag for all your kit on the water and to put your wet clothing in at the end of the day.
