What Can I Expect

Abseil into the Abyss at the Magna Science Adventure Centre in Rotherham! You will be abseiling from a whopping 150 ft at this unique indoor venue on this exciting experience.

An award-winning Millennium project, Magna is an amazing place to visit. This former steel mill is full of fun things to see and do - one of which is this very cool indoor abseil.

The Abyss is vast, dark and very atmospheric. It’s like a film set with dramatic music, experience lighting, special effects like dry ice and video screens. You’ll feel fully immersed in the challenge you’re about to face.

The first adventure is climbing the Face of Steel building steps to reach the purpose-built abseil platform. It’s quite a feat in itself to get there, so congratulate yourself on your courage and make sure you drum up some more for the next bit.

What goes up must come down as they say. You’ll be getting down from that 150 ft-high platform in the rafters in quite possibly the most exhilarating way possible; by abseiling into the void. There’s no wall for you to follow, you’ll be in free air!

No doubt your legs will be ‘pedalling’ mid-air as you step off from the edge of the platform into…nothing. You’ll descend through that 150 ft abyss until your feet finally touch the ground, having experienced the adrenaline rush of that extreme indoor abseil.

When Is It Available

• This activity is held indoors so will not be affected by the weather
• This experience is held on selected weekends throughout the year

Suitable For

• Minimum age is 11 years
• 11-16 year old require a parent or guardian's permission and signature
• A weight limit of 120kg (18 stone 12 pounds) applies
• There are no height restrictions
• Waist harnesses fit waist size of 40cm (15.7 inches) to 125cm (49.2 inches)
• There is no maximum age limit
• Customers 50 years and above should seek medical advice prior to their event to ensure there is no medical reason for them not to participate
• This experience is not suitable for pregnant women or those with high blood pressure, heart problems, diabetes, epilepsy or asthma
• Comfortable clothing is recommended for this experience, such as a tracksuit and trainers
• Boots are not permitted
• All other equipment will be supplied on the day

Spectators

• Spectators are welcome and encouraged to bring cameras to capture the excitement of the day

Anything Else

• Please note – this is a free abseil meaning that you abseil into free air and not down the side of a wall
