What Can I Expect
The ultimate in wing-to-wing experience packages at Duxford! A full-day of vintage aviation fun involving Spitfires, Dragon Rapides and Tiger Moths at historic Duxford, with these ‘Wing Commander' and ‘Air Commodore' experiences.
The highlight of both packages is the wing to wing flight in the Dragon Rapide alongside the Spitfire. As you are cruising along, you'll suddenly hear the unmistakable sound of that glorious Merlin engine. And then she comes into view. This wonderful Second World War Spitfire is flying directly level with you. Simply magnificent.
The aircraft you will see and get up close to will most probably be N3200, a Mk1a Spitfire that was first delivered to this very airfield in April 1940, when she was placed with No 19 Squadron at RAF Duxford.
Spitfire N3200 flew only one mission, leading the charge to protect the Allied Forces during the 'Operation Dynamo' evacuation. Shot down over Calais, N3200 languished in a sandy grave at Sangatte, until she was discovered and recovered in 1986. Gloriously restored, she is now a magnificent sight flying in the air above her original home.
Once landed, the fun of these Ultimate experiences continues with a Champagne reception and ground tour of the Spitfire and the Dragon Rapide. With the pilots in attendance, you can ask questions and find out what it's like to pilot these incredible vintage planes.
You will also pose for a professional photograph of yourself next to the Spitfire, which is included in your package. You will then head for a tasty lunch at the airfield restaurant, after which you are free to explore the IWM Duxford.
If you go for the Air Commodore version of these Spitfire flying experiences, your incredible extras include a flight over Duxford in a lovely vintage Tiger Moth and the added bonus of a guided tour around the Battle of Britain exhibition. You also get a signed logbook and photo too.
These Ultimate Wing to Wing Experiences are truly outstanding packages for those who are passionate about aviation.
And if you love your Spitfires and Dakotas, why not become a member of the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight club to help keep these wonderful warbirds flying?
