What Can I Expects
See the Scroby Sands seals on these seal-watching boat trips! Everyone loves seals and (hopefully) getting to see them in their natural environment (without getting in their way or disturbing them) is a moment to cherish. And that's the aim of these Scroby Sands seal watching trips.
Departing from Lowestoft, you'll head up the coast past Corton, Hopton Beach and Gorleston-on-Sea to then arrive in Scroby Sands, where the wind farm is. This whole area is characterised by the four-mile-long sandbank that runs from Caister to Great Yarmouth. Beyond Britannia Pier the sands get less populated - and this is where the seals hang out, chilling on the sand.
Your boat skipper and crew are all experts at seal spotting. They know these waters well and have a good understanding of how these animals behave. They also respect the seals and these trips are very much on their terms, so you won't be disturbing the seal population.
Having said that, these Scroby Sands seals are rather inquisitive, so the chances are they will come up to near the boat to investigate! Nothing beats the sight of a pod of seals bobbing around in the water right next to you. You'll see they are playful and curious, seemingly without a care in the world, playing in the sea.
The best thing to do at this point is drop anchor, turn the engine off and just observe - and that is exactly what the crew will do if the sea conditions allow. Either that, or it's engine off and let the boat drift with the tide, so you can silently watch the seals.
You will be seeing the seals in their natural habitat and it is truly magical to be able to stay calm and still to observe the seals from a boat. Suitable for all ages from four years old, a Scroby Sands seal watching excursion from Lowestoft is a fabulous boat trip out on the sea that all the family will adore! Buy your tickets online now.
