What Can I Expects

Lost wax jewellery making in Brighton! Learn about the ancient art of wax carving and casting, to create unique pieces of silver jewellery to cherish. It's fascinating, fun and a great gift to give.

You'll be joining Brighton-based jeweller Beth for these workshops at an artist's studio or gallery in the seaside town. The talented jewellery maker's ethos is all about recycling, reusing and repurposing precious metals, to create quality, meaningful and responsible jewellery in small batches.

Beth loves the ancient art of lost wax casting. These workshops are keeping the traditional method well and truly alive, with amazing results. In essence, you smooth, carve and shape jeweller's wax to form and design what you want. A cast is then made around the wax jewellery piece. After which, the whole thing is fired in a kiln. The precious metals are heated and then poured into the cast, taking up the place of the now melted wax (hence the name ‘lost' wax!).

Breaking the cast reveals the solid piece of metal jewellery. At this stage it is rather rough and dull-looking. But a little buffing, polishing and finishing by Beth will turn it into that beautiful, shiny piece of jewellery to be proud of.

Your lost wax jewellery workshop will be in two parts. You'll start by focusing purely on the design, shaping and creating of the wax piece. Guided by Beth, you'll be shown how to use the tools to bring your design idea to life. Then you will take the process that step further, as you assist to make your cast for your wax piece.

You'll leave your work of wax-carved art with Beth, who will look after the metal pouring process and the finishing of your jewellery, which will be yours to keep.

Suitable for anyone over the age of 13, these lost wax jewellery making workshops in Brighton make great gifts for solo and pairs, as well as parties for small groups of teens, hens and friends. Buy your vouchers online in just a few clicks.
