What Can I Expect

Go gorge walking near Glasgow and discover the Devil's Pulpit! Explore this natural phenomenon made famous by the TV show ‘Outlander' on a fabulously fun three-hour gorge walk led by expert guides.

Outlander Season 1, Episode 6. Dougal needs to know he can trust Claire. He takes her to the ethereal surroundings of St Ninian's Spring. Colloquially known as Liar's Spring, anyone who drinks the hallowed waters and lives, is deemed to be telling the truth. Claire drinks from the waterfall and that is enough to convince Dougal that she isn't a spy....

Even before these fictional scenes were filmed at Devil's Pulpit, this impressive 100ft gorge has attracted visitors for centuries. There are stories of druids, devils and witches galore. The Devil's Pulpit itself is actually a strange, mushroom-shaped rock that sits within the Finnich Glen - and it's best reached by gorge walking!

Your gorge walk starts at this outdoor adventure company's Pinkston base. They will transport you around 30-minutes towards Loch Lomond near Drymen, where you'll walk the stone steps down into the gorge.

Your first view of the gorge will take your breath away. The green moss-covered steep rock wall sides tower over the flowing crimson red waters. With the shards of light piercing through the trees, it really is magically mysterious. It's the red sandstone that makes Devli's Pulpit and Finnich Glen so spectacular and colourful.

You will be exploring this amazing location as you scramble, slide, swim and jump from pool to pool, moving downstream along this emerald green cavern. Being one of the best and most atmospheric beauty spots near Glasgow, we can highly recommend gorge walking at Devil's Pulpit!
