What Can I Expect
Can you conquer the Cornwall Castaway Challenge? A multi-activity experience that'll have you swimming, leaping, climbing and SUPing your way around a secret corner of the Cornish coastline near Newquay!
This challenge is inspired by a local legend of a brave and somewhat maverick lifeboat rescue mission. It took place in the winter of 1917 and is a tale of a capsized ship off the Newquay coast and the local rescue that ends up being a survival mission.
Your coastal castaway challenges will see you channelling this story and the wilderness of this part of the Newquay coastline. You'll start in the sea (to give you a tiny taste of what it could be like to be shipwrecked!) and your first challenge is to make it to dry land.
That means wild swimming, riding the sluices (nature's rapids!) and traversing rocks until you reach the cove. As it happens, this was a secret smuggler's cove. One again, your experience is rooted in local history and legends!
Now you're officially castaways, thoughts and actions turn to survival. You'll need to keep warm by making a fire. You'll need to stave off hunger by foraging for food for you and your campmates. And you'll even have time to observe the wildlife all around you in this stunning setting.
But you can't remain a castaway forever. The time will come for you to seek out that raft that has been hidden somewhere in or around your cove hideaway. And forget old rusty oil drums strapped together with rope, your escape craft is a supersized, giant stand up paddleboard!
Brilliant fun, you'll need to work as a team to get on the thing, get going and paddle your way back to the shore. If you're really feeling confident, try standing up rather than kneeling on the board - it's a whole different ball game that'll most probably end in hilarity!
