What Can I Expect

Go big on the blades with this urban axe throwing experience! In the hidden depths of Hertfordshire lies an outdoor activity centre. Here you'll find a corner dedicated to throwing things at targets. This all means that you will be trying your hand at double headed axe, Tomahawk and knife throwing.

Axe throwing at this friendly family-run centre between Ware and Stevenage in Hertfordshire really caught our eye because of the variety of weaponry on offer. After all, its not every day you get to hurl heavy axes and even knives at wooden blocks is it?

Tomahawk axes are fairly small and light, meaning they are a good choice for most people. It still takes a considerably amount of skill to be able to plant one square on in the wood with the satisfying thud, but one thing's for sure, it's great fun trying!

Then there's the Swedish double headed throwing axe. Originally used in North America as forest axes, these are specially modified versions that are perfectly weighted and sized for competitive throwing. Double-headed means the axe head is bladed on both edges and is also referred to as double 'bit'. The idea with these Swedish short-handled axes is that, although being relatively heavy, they are fairly easy to throw and designed to rotate nicely in the air before embedding themselves in the target.

As part of the axe-throwing session, you might also get the chance to learn knife throwing. You'll be shown how to use a 'pinch' grip to hold the blade and how to pull back your arm, bend your elbow and then extend, pointing the knife towards the target, and then releasing. A neat little spin throw and you'll be getting you knives lodged into that target with ease.

We think you'll agree, urban axe throwing in the heart of Hertfordshire is pretty cool, with doubleheader axes, tomahawks and a whole lot more. It's great fun for small groups, with a minimum age of 16 years to participate.
