What a weekend of sport in the UK!
This weekend was a sport-lover’s delight with the British Grand Prix at Silverstone (well done Lewis Hamilton!), the final of the men’s singles tennis at Wimbledon and the start of the Tour de France in Yorkshire!
We watched the motor racing, the tennis and the cycling on the telly. Watching Lewis sweep into victory in front of the home crowd was rally rather inspiring – and you can follow in the tyre marks of those F1 drivers with our driving experiences at Silverstone too.
Over in SW19, it was a great match by Federer and Djokovic that had us clutching our glass of Pimms with white knuckles until the very last ball of the fifth set. Mind you, it was a shame England/Scotland’s Andy Murray didn’t make it two years in a row.
The Tour de France really was something else though. So many people in Harrogate for the arrival of the first stage and all those drone and helicopter shots of local landmarks that just make you want to go and visit the area to discover it all for yourself (in the car of course, those bike seats are far too spiky these days).
After the three days in the UK our other half (who’s French and clearly doesn’t really understand the concept of being on an island) asked: “How do they cycle back over to France then?”. We jokingly replied: “They cycle through the Tunnel of course!”…
…looks like I am now going to have to eat my words, because that is just what Team Sky’s Chris Froome did in a very sleek little promo in association with Jaguar. Who’d have though it eh?
