Introducing the rarest Aston Martin ever: James Bond’s DB10
Amongst all the glitz and glamour at Pinewood Studios as the 24th Bond film called ‘SPECTRE’ was announced, there was one cast member who didn’t pout once for the camera or do that hands on hips thing. In fact they didn’t even move. Or say anything to the journalists. But then they didn’t have to. We’re talking about James Bond’s new motor of choice – the Aston Martin DB10.
This amazing and utterly gorgeous car hits all the superlatives head on. As Bond director Sam Mendes prepared to unveil the Aston he said: “The first cast member that I will introduce to you is a non-human cast member. I am really excited and thrilled to be able to say that we have continued our 50 year relationship with Aston Martin”, referring to Bond’s DB5 that he drove in Goldfinger back in 1964.
As for the creation of the this incredible DB10, Mendes continued: “Together, we have worked on designing a new car – and so, I can reveal the new Aston Martin D10. A thing of beauty and you can see what it can do when you come and see the movie.”
Ooooh! Well that got us thinking. Just what might this car be able to do? Make the perfect shaken and not stirred martini for Bond? Detect a baddie hell-bent on revenge from several miles away? Avoid all police radars (now that would be useful!)? Looking back at previous Bond films and their Astons, we’ve had everything from handy rocket launchers to life saving defibrillators, so who knows what gadgets the DB10 will be loaded with?
What we do know though is that the the Aston Martin DB10 will only be driven by Bond, as the design and engineering team at Gaydon in Warkwickshire will only be building 10 of these exclusive secret agent cars and they won’t by offered for sale at dealerships or put into production in the future. Now that’s why we’re saying it’s the rarest Aston Martin of the DB series ever and an instant classic even before we’ve seen one being driven!
At this point we should talk about the plot (Bond goes on the hunt for terrorist organisation Special Executive for Counter-intelligence Terrorism, Revenge and Extortion – hence SPECTRE- headed by Blofeld) and the cast (Daniel Craig is back for a fourth time as Bond, and Monica Belluci is set to be the oldest Bond Girl ever at 50 years old) and the fact that it’ll be filmed at Pinewood and on location in London, Morocco and Austria, but quite frankly all we care about is the gorgeous car.
Of course, non 007 types will never get anywhere near the DB10, but if you want to get a feel of what life is like as the world’s jammiest secret agent who always comes out on top, you can drive a selection of Bond’s favourite Aston Martins including the V8 Vantage (like the one in The Living Daylights, or a DBS similar to the ones featured in Quantum of Solace and Casino Royale. They probably won’t have spike-producing tyres or passenger ejector seats, but they are still fabulous to drive!
