If BA is on strike, why not fly yourself?!

If the airlines like BA are striking, why not learn to fly yourself on holiday?!

Since British Airways cabin crew staff have voted for 12 days of strike action over the Christmas and New Year period, quite possibly to be followed by Eurostar staff who are also threatening to strike over the same period, we’ve been putting our thinking hats on to work out what can be done.

And we’ve come to the conclusion it’s better to learn to fly yourself. Then if you fancy hopping across the Channel for a few turns on the ski slopes of Chamonix you can do. Just fuel up the plane, throw in your ski gear and away you go. Of course, learning to fly is really rather expensive, so maybe we should have a trial lesson to see if it’s ‘our thing’. Afterall, it took us more than a few goes to pass our driving test…

Browsing through Into the Blue’s website, we see there are 20 minute taster flying lessons for just £59, or 30 minute trail flights from £75, available at airfields all over the UK. We’re just trying to work out now if 30 minutes is long enough for us to fly to the French Alps so we can ask the pilot to drop us off, thus saving ourselves a whole heap of hassle at the airport if the strikes go ahead.

Looking at the map we suspect not. We might just have to queue at the airport like everyone else after all. Nice thought though.
