From a Man on the Moon to Jeff Goldblum at your dinner table – your favourite 2015 Christmas TV adverts

There was a time when you were at least allowed to celebrate Guy Fawke’s night before all the Christmas TV adverts came out, but this year Christmas has most definitely beaten the Gunpowder Plotter to it, as every advert break on telly since the start of November has been stuffed full to the gills with Christmassy glittery-ness. Seems there’s no avoiding it, so which one do you prefer?

The top three 2015 Christmas advertising campaigns as voted by you

In a Mailonline poll, the John Lewis advert was the runaway winner with over 70% of all votes. ‘Man on the Moon’ is as heart-jerkingly sentimental as it should be and despite people asking how did the old man actually get on the moon in the first place, it seems you all love the advert.

And it would appear the first showing of the John Lewis advert has become as much a part of festive tradition as mince pies and mistletoe. Indeed, the video clocked up 5.9 million views on Youtube in just 24 hours after its release and more mentions on Twitter than NASA actually got after the space agency advertised on the same day for applications to go to Mars.

But spare a thought for computer science educator John Lewis, who has been deluged with Tweets following the advert’s screening, but his replies are most entertaining in themselves, proving the festive good cheer and spirit is definitely alive and well, despite his Twitter profile pointing out that he ‘is not a retail store’!

the other John Lewis

So it seems the delightful tale of Lily looking through her telescope and discovering the white-haired old man on the moon is yet again a complete and utter winner for John Lewis. If the ad strikes a chord because you’ve got your own little stargazer at home, why not buy them an extra special treat this Christmas and give them the chance to name their very own star? We can’t think of a more sparkly and special treat than that.

Star gazer

And in second place…

But onto the ‘best of the rest’ when it comes to top Christmas 2015 TV adverts. In second place is the Waitrose advert. Produced by the same advertising agency as ‘Man on the Moon’, it’s another very slick montage of very Christmassy images, complete with a blink-or-you’ll-miss-it cameo from Heston Blumenthal who is putting the finishing touches to his latest creation for the posh food chain, as the narrator asks ‘What makes Christmas Christmas?’.

Let’s skip over the likes of Boots, which is so sugary sweet it makes us feel like we do on Boxing Day morning having consumed an entire tin of Quality Street the day before (including the penny toffees we usually hate). It all just feels a little Only Way is Essex to us. Similarly, the Asda ad is instantly forgettable, even with X Factor’s Fleur East’s new single ‘Sax’ being the soundtrack to it.

A Hollywood star lending a helping hand at Christmas

Finally, to the cleverest Xmas adverts of 2015 that came third in the MailonLine poll. You have to admit, Curry PC World’s series of adverts featuring Hollywood legend Jeff Goldblum are inspired. The actor helpfully intervenes in classic festive season scenes in your typical household that we can all relate too – especially Ed’s overcooked Turkey (although in our case its usually undercooked because we forgot to get the darn bird out of the freezer the day before!).
