Be the star in that reasonably-priced car
The ‘Star in a reasonably-priced car’ is one of our favourite segments on Top Gear, when you watch the likes of Harry Enfield, Simon Cowell and Gordon Ramsay battling with the family saloon car to get the fastest lap they can, to make sure they don’t disgrace themselves on the celebrity leaderboard.
What really make us laugh is the onboard camera footage – much comedy when Michael Gambon clipped the last corner on two wheels, leading to Jeremy Clarkson re-naming the bend in his honour. Then there was American crooner Lionel ‘Hello’ Ritchie who managed to lose a wheel, as did Trevor ‘Shoestring’ Eve. Who could forget David Soul who, despite playing top cop Hutch in Starksy and Hutch, managed to burn out not one, but two clutches on the long suffering family saloon car.
Yachtswomen Ellen MacArthur posted the all time fastest lap in the Suzuki Liana and since then the leaderboard was wiped clean as Top Gear now uses a Chevrolet Lacetti as the reasonably-priced car, with Jay Kay pipping Kevin ‘Grand Designs’ McCloud for the coveted top spot.
So how cool would it be to have a go yourself? Well, now you can as Into the Blue has just signed up a ‘Star in a car’ experience at a special sprint circuit just outside Birmingham. There’s even more than pride at stake with this experience too, as your racing lap time will be recorded on the leaderboard, with the five fastest drivers at the end of the season being invited back to go head to head to be crowned as THE ‘Star in the car’ and walk away with a £1000 prize – enough for a deposit on a reasonably-priced car for yourself!
We’re really quite excited about this new ‘Star in the car’ activity and we’ve put it straight on sale so you can buy it for a loved one as a very special Christmas present this year. Oh and just like the real ‘Star in a reasonably-priced car’, there’ll be onboard cameras to catch every grimace, grunt and comment you make that can captured on DVD for you to laugh at!
