James Bond’s love affair with cars starts with Dr No
Although everyone thinks of the classic silver-grey Aston Martin DB5 as the original James Bond car, it was not the first car driven by 007 in the films. That honour goes to a stylish, but much more affordable, Sunbeam Alpine. Bond, played by Sean Connery, hired his Alpine in Dr No, the first Bond film.
007 goes sporty with Lotus and Aston Martin
When Roger Moore was James Bond, his car marque of choice was Lotus. 007 was famous for driving various Lotus Esprit cars in the Bond films during the 1970s and 80s.
But of course, it is fair to say that Aston Martin is the brand most associated with our favourite secret agent. The gadget-filled DB5 is indeed the signature Bond car, as it has returned to feature in many films throughout the series.
Bond still loves a reasonably-priced family car…
However, as well as all those luxury and sports cars, there have been some surprisingly mundane cars to feature prominently in Bond’s action-packed life. There’s the ubiquitous Ford Mondeo. The instantly forgettable Renault 11. And the rather more charismatic Citroen 2CV.
